Bobcats Success on and off the field in the past week

Posted Sunday, August 09, 2009 by Duane Maranda
Athletes and Parents,
This past week we have seen all of our hard work the past few months really begin to pay off.  Since spring ball our athletes have worked very hard attending lifting sessions and also attending two passing league sessions each week.  This past week our passing league team participated in a tournament at Guilford High School.  Our team quarterbacked by Brendan Cullen reached the semi-finals where we just fell short of shocking the tournament by beating Hamden High School.  Hamden which is currently ranked #1 in Maxpreps CT pre-season poll returns 34 Seniors to this years team.  They brought over 25 players to the tournament, we brought 9 warriors.  Up 23-10 at halftime we fell short in the end 36-26.  We proved we can play with the best that day.

Today our team had two full teams plus a smaller third team compete in the 7th Annual ECC Lifting Competition held at Bacon Academy.  For the first time ever our athletes came in 1st place!  Our 11,330 lbs lifted was higher than all other school including the likes of a LL size high school NFA.  Once again we can compete with anyone!  Today we had almost all lifters obtain personal bests in all or some of their lifts, again a testament to our growth.

The old saying says every great journey begins with a first step.  Our program took that step 10 years ago.  Those steps turned into a walk.  Recently we have begun to pick up speed and turn that into a jog.  We must continue that momentum and be sprinting by September 18th vs. New London.  In order for that to happen we must remain consistent with our training leading up to the season.  We have two weeks left before the season begins.  Monday we will finish our passing league season with the ECC tournament in Ledyard.  We gained respect last week in Guilford it is time to do that and more on Monday.  We almost beat the pre-season #1 team in the state last week, no one in Ledyard can compare to them.  I expect great things Monday and will not accept anything but that.  Play with confidence.  Expect to win.  You have earned it.
Following Monday we will continue to train Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday evening 6-7:30.  Our focus will be agility, speed, and endurance.  You have 6 sessions, make the most of them!

High Moxy!
